I have always defined myself by the places that I have chosen to live and the experiences they have offered me. An Environmental Studies major at a picturesque university in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania ... a ski bum in the beautiful mountains of Steamboat Springs, Colorado ... a modern media professional living the hip Southern California lifestyle ... an environmentalist and mountain girl at heart now living in Bend, Oregon. Bend has been an inspiration in many ways. It has taught me that there are not just individuals, but communities with a strong sense of environmental consciousness and spiritual awareness. It has taught me that I should never stop playing just as hard as I work. It has finally taught me that if you aren't happy working hard for someone else, change it or learn how to do it yourself. And, so it inspired me to start High Desert Naturals. Now, I am no longer inspired just by the place where I live, but by what I do for a living - re-defining comfort by bringing all natural and organic home furnishings to individuals just like you. To build a company with a true sense of environmental consciousness is a dream come true; a realization that anything is possible. So, what are you capable of? I have always considered myself a bit of a gypsy because I have traveled a lot in my lifetime. My careers have always kept me roaming freely, from being an airline employee, to a career in the apparel industry for over 10 years. However, after the death of an important role model in my life, my heart said it was time to stick close to home. So, I moved to Bend, Oregon to be closer to my family. Among my family ties, I found beautiful landscapes, and a community with a strong sense of environmental responsibility. It was then that my eyes were opened to the world of organics and low and behold, organic textiles. In my pursuit to learn more about the world of organics, I happened to meet my future business partner. Our growing environmental awareness and our friendship grew into a passion to create our own business High Desert Naturals. And, now I am proud to say that I built a company that promotes a better life for myself, my family, my friends and our planet, one restful night at a time. |
